The AI gold rush: ten books, ten games, one growing bill

Explore Terms of Extraction through ten short satire games about data, water, work, money, and the promises of the AI industry.

The AI gold rush is often described through bigger models, bigger investments, and bigger promises. Terms of Extraction follows the costs attached to those promises, from the writing used to train models to the workers, resources, and trust involved in producing their output.

The series contains ten volumes. Each opens a different door into the AI economy: data, water and energy, finance, demonstrations, labor, safety, surveillance, market power, reliability, and the eventual bill.

Play the business model

The extraction arcade turns those themes into ten short, fictional games. Catch books while dodging copyright claims in All You Can Scrape. Balance cooling demand against a dwindling water supply in Thirst Trap. Audit confident claims in Source: Trust Me Bro, or decide when to cash out in Exit Liquidity.

Each game lasts up to thirty seconds. They are satire: the scores and businesses are invented. You can open any game directly, replay it, or share a score challenge with a friend.

Read beyond the joke

The books were written with AI. Their creator stands by the concerns they explore and encourages readers to support the original researchers and journalists in the They warned you reading list. The games and excerpts are an invitation to follow those sources and examine their arguments.
