Operation AI Comply — The Sweep That Started With Five and Grew

The Federal Trade Commission announced Operation AI Comply: a law-enforcement sweep against operations that used AI hype or sold AI that could be used in deceptive ways. The day's five were not a rumor. They were complaints and proposed orders a person can still fetch.

DoNotPay — the robot lawyer. Chapter 7.

Rytr — an AI writing tool the FTC said enabled fake reviews. The consent order was later reopened and set aside on December 22, 2025, in a 2-0 vote the 2026 walks still label. I am putting the set-aside here so the sweep cannot pretend every file ended as a trophy.

Ascend Ecom, Ecommerce Empire Builders, FBA Machine — business-opportunity rooms. AI as the engine of a storefront that would make you rich. FBA Machine, the release said, had already been hit in June under names including Passive Scaling; the agency put consumer cost above $15.9 million on earnings claims that rarely materialized. What a Sweep Is, If You Have Only Met a Fine

A sweep is a press release that puts several dockets under one hat so a journalist can write a sentence. The hat is useful. The hat is also a costume. Each docket has its own kitchen. I am walking the kitchens. I am not selling the hat.

Reuben wrote sweep ≠ statute. He said a sweep is how a commission proves it was in the room. I said rooms are the book. He said then do not let the hat eat the rooms. I did not.

The Meeting Called AI Washing Horizon

I sat, while I still had a badge, in a meeting whose title was AI washing horizon. The slide had a yellow light. I said we should stop saying powered unless we could point at a test. Someone said powered is "table stakes." Table stakes is a vest. Legal said we should take powered offline. We shipped powered. I went to the garage.

Rytr, Set Aside

December 22, 2025. A 2-0 vote. The Rytr consent order from the original sweep was reopened and set aside. I do not have the commissioners' kitchen beyond the walks that say 2-0. I have the fact of a trophy that left the shelf. Sweeps hate a set-aside. Books should love one. Love, here, means label. The hat is not a statute. The hat can lose a file.

Reuben wrote 2-0 / set aside and boxed it. He said boxes are how you stop a press release from becoming your memory. I said calendars do that. He said then steal both. I stole both.

Workado's Coin

98 percent on the box. 53 percent in the file. A coin flip sold as a detector. The order asked for substantiation and a notice, not a number a podcast can chant. I am putting the coin in Chapter 5 so Chapter 8 does not eat every earnings scheme and forget the accuracy scheme. Accuracy is Degree 1's adult wearing a percentage. Percentages that do not survive a test are claims.

Lark asked if a detector could tell a student essay. I said I would not tell him. He said then what is 98. I said 98 is a box. He sold a charger. The charger was a tool. I respected the tool.

Dex and the Hat

Dex buys media for a shop that still has a bullpen. I met him because Quill would not stop introducing people. Dex asked if Operation AI Comply was "the fourteen." I am going to say free of and powered and robot and passive are cousins, and that cousins do not share a docket number, and that Dex's hat wants them to. Hats are photographs. Photographs crop. I am putting the crop in the chapter so a sweep cannot pretend it invented faces.
